Bonne is ♥

Bonne has been all about love this summer, despite the demands of my day (and mostly night) job. I've been corresponding with brides for their wedding headpieces and prenup shoots. What I love about this whole process is getting to know the brides, their style, what they envision for their wedding.  I mean, let's face it guys, it's really the Bride's day.

Since my sister is getting married this June, I've been more or less involved in the preparation. With all that stress and the need to make every single detail close to perfection -- to tell you the truth, it ain't a pretty sight until she's in that dress and walking down that aisle. I think she has done a fantastic job and has developed this uncanny skill of manipulation. Haha.  I am really excited to see her walk down the aisle--armed with my water-proof mascara, of course.

one mad Saturday...

My lovely friend Kitty brought over some brunch,
which turned into an impromptu lunch at a cozy little bistro,
which then turned into mad hatter madness...

Headpieces are from my friend's prop collection

Here's the Bonne original:

The silver rose brooch was my grandmother's.

It's going to be loooong week. But I'm looking forward to taking my niece to the zoo for her third birthday. I think, the last time I was in Manila Zoo, I was about 10 years old..  I hope it's in much better condition now than it was then.  But I'm betting the monkeys are still notorious poop-throwers.

Pretty in a Pillbox

1950 Mary Jane Russell, originally uploaded by myvintagevogue.
"Hats were an ideal wardrobe refresher during the Great Depression, appealing to women who couldn’t afford new clothes but wished to update their look. Accessories could take the focus off last season’s clothing for a fraction of the price of a new dress or coat, and hats were better attention grabbers than shoes or bags. As it framed the face, a hat provided an instant focal point that drew the eye up and away from shabby or unfashionable clothing." Source

New on Bonne: Pretty Pillbox hats for very stylish girls. These hats are made from felt cloth and adorned with feathers, brooches or tulle.

Models: Bonsai Fojas & Mica Tuano.  Make-up: Mica Tuano. Photography: Cholo Dela Vega

The material is not too stiff, and perfect for tropical weather. Attach two hairpins on each side and you're off! Perfect for evenings or for accessorizing an otherwise simple outfit.

The hats in these photos are available. If you wish to have a custom-made pillbox hat please send me a message via bonnebons@yahoo.com.

Cloche by the sea

Ahoy there!

Took my new cloche for a little boat ride during Holy Week.

According to wikipedia, "Cloche hats were usually made of felt so that they conformed to the head.[1][1] By 1928-1929, it became fashionable to turn the brims on cloche hats upwards. This style remained prevalent throughout the early 1930s until the cloche hat became obsolete around 1933-1934."  The hat was typically designed to be worn low on the forehead, with the wearer's eyes only slightly below the brim.

I decided to experiment with lighter fabric so that the cloche could still be worn in tropical weather.  There's lining underneath the hat and for a bit of frivolous fun, I sometimes add feather clips or brooches.

The Bonne Cloche is available upon request.  Since I make the headpieces myself, please let me know if you would like to have one made at LEAST one week in advance.
